We need to normalise adapting our fitness throughout life.

Yes, we all want results yesterday.
We want to wake up feeling great, not stiff every day. We want to be able to eat & drink without it affecting our fitness goals, we want to feel energised, not sluggish. We can't be bothered with rehab exercises, stretches or 'homework' to help us move better, we don't want to waste time slowly building back up or making sure our body is ready to load properly again after life changes. We are conditioned to want instant relief & results! Now this is exhausting for any good trainer to be fighting against every day!
As someone who has gone through multiple surgeries, rehab training & working in a health care sector, I cannot begin to tell you how important it is to adapt, change & take the time to work with your body to prevent long-term injuries, joint pain, poor mobility & incorrect loading, which will affect you for life! Trusting the process is what happens here... something a lot of us are not good at or, simply "don't have the patience for".
Do I tuck jump like Tigger, run feeling like Usain Bolt or feel as energised doing HIIT training like I did in my early 20s? I wish, ha-ha but that doesn't mean I don't do those things anymore, I may just do them slightly differently or, feel I have to push myself that little bit harder than what I used to be able to do. Is that a bad thing? nope. That is how we train; we don't just stop when something gets hard or we "can't be bothered anymore." we learn to change it up, adjust how we move & find ways to make our body move better!
Please stop comparing yourself to everyone else. No one is the same. What works for them may not work for you. Genetics, health conditions, age, sex, injuries, pregnancies, mental health, social factors & lifestyle can impact people differently & we have no idea what happens in someone's life 24/7, so probably best to keep unwarranted advice to yourself unless you are a professional.
Encourage, support, educate & help people to stay healthy & active throughout life is something I will always try to promote. Safe training, trying new things & not being afraid of your body changing is also a big one I will help with. Sometimes, a specialist is worth investing in (even for the short term) to help you move your body safely, progress appropriately & load correctly. Working through with adaptions/ regress to progress is far better than ignorance & worsening problems at a later date!

So, please stop promoting:
"Bouncing back to pre-baby body will happen to you!"
"Weight loss = hours of HIIT & starvation"
"you're older, you can't train like you used to"
"Maybe you need to rest & stop for a while"
"If it hurts, just do something different & avoid that exercise forever more"
"Peeing yourself when you exercise is normal, just don't jump or run anymore!"
"Start in Summer as Winter isn't good to exercise"
"I don't have time either!"
"You don't need a PT, just look up you-tube workouts or do what I do"
"you\re old now, everything hurts all the time, get used to it!"
- Okay thanks, that would be great!
If you want to feel good, move better, get realistic results or wanting to try something new, don't ever be afraid to try! Your only barrier is your mindset.
City to surf? True Grit? Triathlon? Do a pull up? get back into exercise post-partum? start running? Flip a truck tyre? Deadlift 100kgs? lower blood pressure? start working out without judgement? be able to keep up with my kids? Have a mental break for myself?...
Take a breath, block out the unhelpful Facebook/ TikTok advice & unsolicited opinions of friends & get your own fitness journey started today. It doesn't have to be a grand goal; it just has to be something for yourself. A journey worth doing!
If you want some help with; where or how to start your fitness journey or just some advice for your situation, I'm here, happy to assist.
Otherwise, tie up those shoes, put on some apparel that makes you feel good & get moving in a way that works for you! Today is the best day to do something.
Love & gains,
Your Jurassic PT trainer
