Yes, the time is here where each weekend seems to have some sort of social engagement booked in be it a wedding, birthday party, work event, Christmas parties, Festive season/ school holiday escape or sport club award nights... Its a great time of the year for the social calendar, not so much for the body & physical activity.
This is prime time we see people throw caution to the wind with the drinking & eating, & skipping a workout to attend an event or being hungover. It's around the time large gym franchises commence their biggest income earner yet; planning around this peak weight gain period with promotions galore "New year new you" "no join up fee" " 4 weeks free new year membership deal" "detox teas, meal replacement shakes, fat burner tablets on sale now!" They realise these 12 week roll down to a new year, are peak weight gain periods & panic purchases in the hope for an unrealistic quick fix will be through the roof! This is something we need to de- normalise!
"Ill be good next week, ill diet through the week to undo damage on the weekend, ill start next week, ill skip lunch so I can eat & drink tonight, ill go to a class tomorrow, I don't have time to workout this week"... some of these will sound familiar & hell, we've all been there but, considering how easy it is to see those scales move up & how much damage can be done in 3 months (I've seen it many a time & sadly, some people just stop trying all together!) it isn't that hard to try & find some balance in this hectic social period, whilst still enjoying the festive season.
Bad habits to look out for & ones to nip in the butt now, include...
bargaining with yourself over food & drink intake for an event is not healthy
weight gain happens easily, bad habits creep in without noticing & are hard to cease
alcoholic beverages do have calories in them, some people forget about the liquids on a night out & just focus on the food... they both add into your daily in-take amount!
starving yourself throughout the week for a weekend event & doing hours of cardio every day isn't fun, nor is it healthy
skipping all social events because you are worried about weight gain is not healthy
time management is crucial, there will be 10 minutes spare somewhere to get moving in the 24 hours you have & it still counts as exercise!
enjoy the events in a balanced state of mind. Have a drink, enjoy some festive/ event food but, take responsibility for your own health & don't blame others for poor choices
make smart choices throughout the day, drink plenty of water, skip the after party 'maccas run' & get some sleep afterwards.

Working out 3-4 times a weeks isn't hard to do, 15 minutes is great if that's all you've got time for. It doesn't have to be hours on end. Movement, stretches, sleep, water intake & keeping your fitness appointments in the diary & attending them, are all ways to help yourself get through the last quarter of 2022 feeling happy, healthy & in front, for your new years entrance!
If you're not seeing results, trying everything without success, no idea how to get started or how to stay on track for this period, reach out & ask for help. Get a trainer who wants to help you succeed & stop the "festive period weight gain train!"
Taking a step for your health & well-being isn't always easy, but that first step can be one of the best for your future self & investment for a happier, healthier future.
Bring on the fitness, the fun & the results!
